Katia Kabanova
Inspired by Alexander Ostrovski’s play L'Orage, Janacek’s opera, with its dense and powerful beauty, is admirably served by the staging of André Engel, whose the Cunnig Little Vixen of the same Janacek has not been forgotten. It is on the occasion of a workshop with young lyric artists of the Royal Foundation in 2010 that he returns to Janacek with this Katia Kabanova. Deliberately flirting with the limits of the lyric and dramatic arts, the precise actor direction of André Engel, close to the intimate feelings of the characters, puts the emphasis on the superb interpretation of the singers.
