Don Giovanni

Don Giovanni, or the last day on Earth of a serial seducer engaged in a headlong, despair-fuelled pursuit of pleasure and the oblivion of the Abyss. Mozart plays off Da Ponte’s libretto to create one of his most deeply moving scores, combining wit and a staggering control of drama with outrageously comic opera buffa. It is the first version, originally premiered in Prague in 1787, that the Dijon Opera house commissioned from the director Jean-Yves Ruf and Gerard Korsten, conducting the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in a highly-praised staging starring Edwin Crossley-Mercer as Don Giovanni and Ruxandra Donose as Donna Elvira.
