In 2003, following a career spanning nearly forty years, Julia Varady decided to stop performing in public. She now dedicates her time to teaching. Whereas with most great singers, the moment when they switch from performing to teaching generally follows a deterioration in their voice, Julia Varady’s singing form has never been greater: she constantly sings during her lessons with the same intensity and generosity as she did as one of the leading sopranos. Such a miracle cannot last for ever. That is why Bruno Monsaingeon plans to film her in her capacity as a teacher.
