The Nansen Passport

I.D. and Travel Document, 1921-1951
Thirty years after the Geneva Convention, on 5 July 1922, the Norwegian diplomat Fridtjof Nansen created a passport to which he gave his name, and which, between 1922 and 1945, protected some 500,000 men and women, who found themselves stateless, without nationality, because of the events of the First World War, the Armenian genocide, and the Russian Revolution. Their number includes well-known names, such as Robert Capa, Marc Chagall, Nabokov, Stravinsky, and Aristotle Onassis.
