Absolute Prokofiev

The prestigious Moscow Easter Festival this year featured an extensive programme of music by the Russian composer, Sergei Prokofiev. The Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra of St. Petersburg, conducted by Valery Gergiev, performed the complete cycle of seven Prokoviev symphonies (including the most captivating, the 5th, Opus 100), the two violin concertos and five piano concertos played by internationally renowned soloists Leonidas Kavakos, Daniil Trifonov, Alexander Toradze, Alexei Volodin, Sergei Babayan, and Denis Matsuev. The comprehensive programme was performed with true passion, a sentiment shared by all listeners.
