Early in his career, he turned his back to the usual musical platform as most professional musicians know it to teach music to children, play jazz or folk music - while continuing to perform the standards of classical music on the international circuit.
A long-time fan of traditional Indian music, and especially traditional raga, he's been invited to India several times to teach music and perform at various venues.
After his being discovered by French documentary director Bruno Monsaigeon in the early eighties, Gilles Apap started a fruitful collaboration with Idéale Audience, which resulted in four films, the latest of which, APAP MASALA, is the first DVD of this collection.
A fantastic edition packing a 52 minute documentary, "Renegade Fiddler", and a two-hour recital at the Maharajah's Palace in Benares, India, this DVD is available for US customers on the artists' website. Gilles Apap has also recorded 7 CDs, 4 of which are self-produced and available from his own company, Apapaziz. Gilles' concert schedule is also displayed on his website and regularly updated.
