After the success of the exhibition « L’Art Nouveau – La Maison Bing » at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Idéale Audience International is proud to release a DVD of the documentary film « Mr Bing & l’Art Nouveau ». The DVD will accompany the exhibition as it next opens at Villa Stuck in Munich in March then moves on to Barcelona and finally Paris in 2006.
An art form born in the second half of the nineteenth century, Art Nouveau was widely distributed by German art dealer and industrialist Siegfried Bing, who settled in France in 1845. His vision was that of a unified decorative artistic style, a « new art » (art nouveau), one that offered a whole new idea of interior decoration. It mixes elegance, flower linearity and subtle combinations of colours. It favors the integration of neo-impressionism, symbolism and the other movements of that century in a single ornamental style.
The film, directed by Françoise Levie and produced in 2004 by Idéale Audience in co-production with Dutch channel AVRO, Musée Van Gogh and Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs,, was made through considerable archival research and shot on the sites where the Art Nouveau works are now being conserved throughout Europe, mostly museums which purchased them from Bing himself.
The DVD will be sold in a beautiful digipack both in museum stores and through the normal retail channels in Europe, starting from mid-February 2005 . It includes the film in 6 language versions (English, French, German, Catalan, Castillan and Dutch) and a diaporama featuring 30 works of Art Nouveau. It will also be possible to purchase it on-line from fnac.com and alapage.fr. through weblinks placed on this site.
The exhibition "L'Art Nouveau - La Maison Bing" displays more than 400 works of art. It will be shown successively in 4 European museums throughout the course of 2005 and 2006 :
