Classic Archive - Singers
This new program of Classic Archive introduces one of the greatest opera myths, Maria Callas. She was not only a diva but also a tragic and romantic heroine.
In the first part of the program, in 1965, in France, Maria Callas is accompanied by the Orchestre National de l’ORTF, conducted by Georges Prêtre and performs three arias: “Adieu notre petite table…” (Manon) by Massenet, “Ah non credea…” (La Sonnambula) by Bellini, “Oh mio babbino caro…” (Gianni Schicchi) by Puccini.
Callas made her French debut in 1958 at the Paris Opera, with the Orchestre et Chœurs du Théâtre National de l’Opéra de Paris and Georges Sébastian. Here we see her performing two arias of Bellini’s Norma : " Casta diva " and " La Cabaletta ", two arias of Verdi’s Il Trovatore and an aria from Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. |
