This episode of Classic Archive pays homage to Ivry Gitlis, a violinist who marked his generation with the originality of his performance and his very familiar contact with the audience.
We listen to him performing the classic Concerto for violin in D major, op.35 by Piotr Tchaikovsky, accompanied by the ORTF National Orchestra, conducted by Francesco Mander.
Following that are three contemporary performances enabling us to discover Gitlis’ playing where the magic of sound is confronted with his amazing technial mastery: first of all Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Saint-Saens, then Melodia, sonata for violin, sz.117 by Bartók and to finish La Capricieuse by Elgar.
